Uniting with Christ in pain and joy
Oh Lord! By the cross You took on all of our sinfulness in that grand demonstration of perfect love!
The history of Your people was that of a race infatuated with earthly desires whose fulfillment was thought to be divinely inspired. Jesus, Lord, You came not as a conqueror of earthly impediments to our human desires, but as the guide to what is beyond the flesh and constantly refreshing!
What is the kingdom within us, but the promise of joy amidst the pains and needs of this world? That is true fulfillment: the eternal lived in the now. To bind one's pains with Christ’s is to offer the praise of sharing in His suffering - demonstrating our love in return to Him!
Heavenly Father, I offer You my suffering, so that I may praise You. You are my king and ruler of mind and spirit and body. You understand the frailty of my being, yet may my loyalty and love be constantly rekindled by You. May I draw closer to You in this life. May my acts be pleasing to You.
Be with Your servants today, priests and religious, and the laity who carry the words of Your Will into everyday lives. Please be with the sick - may they reach fulfillment in Your design and attain glory in this life's purposes. And may I. Amen.
