Palm Sunday: Entering Jerusalem, The Person Jesus Guides Our Humble Imitation of His Divine Love
My Lord and Father! Today You enter into Jerusalem, the physical center of Your people’s faith and prayers. You come to replace that center with Yourself. The people are hungry for a Savior from life’s ills, as are we now. They and we seek a leader to triumph for us in the battles of life. But You today enter on a donkey, a lowly beast. And thus, You enter our hearts and minds in humility. The first movement of Your last acts on earth confound reason
As Your sons we are thrilled by the arrival of the King. Yet, You do not say “conquer” as in the old testament, You say surrender. Surrender to Love. Sacrifice for Love, even your earthly body to the cross, if you believe. We are to imitate you as true sons. As the earthly center of faith will soon die to discover You, we are to die to self to find You there, within us.
I surrender Lord, at this moment, to Your will. My human mind will still seek the physical desires that are before its senses. At each point, may I continue to surrender. May I be filled with Your spirit when You offer It; may I be found longing for Him, when It is withdrawn. May I smile on this life, and its pains and ills because You have set me on a humble road, a road that leads to the Heavenly Jerusalem.
